Spontaneity and Teamwork Development Activity: Sound Ball

Players form a circle and throw around an imaginary ball. A player can throw the ball to any other player, making any sound as the ball is thrown. The receiving player repeats the sound and catches the ball. He then throws the ball to any other player, making any sound he chooses. Several balls can be circulating simultaneously.

Side Coaching

For creativity, ask if anyone is stockpiling (pre-planning) or judging sounds. They should instead let the sound they receive inspire the sound they throw. Remind them there is no wrong sound. Relate this to brainstorming.

For teamwork, ask what problems are being encountered. Ask what is working or what might help. Hold discussions in between rounds. If they notice they are stockpiling, that's a reminder to listen more carefully.
