Creative Collaboration Development Activity: Quick Draw
Working in pairs, players draw a picture one line at a time. One player starts by placing two small circles on a page to represent eyes. Players then take turns adding one line or feature, going as quickly as possible. When a player hesitates, the drawing is done. The players then title the drawing one letter at a time, again alternating and ending when one player hesitates.
Duration: 10-15
Supplies: 1 colored pen per player, several blank pages per pairing.
Tips:
- Have each pair do at least two drawings;
- Display the artwork for all to see;
- Set a mood with music in the background.
Variations:
- Try starting with something other than circles or with nothing at all;
- Can be done with entire team drawing together. Sitting in a circle, players each start with one page, adding lines or features and passing the drawings around to their left (or right).
Use this Technique:
- To get people to experience the power of team creativity;
- At the start of meetings.
Side Coaching
Do this without talking. Go as quickly as you can. Try not to give your partner verbal cues of what you're trying to do. Work with your partner. When you hesitate, the game's over.
Discussion
How did that feel? Were you hesitant to say "I don't see it?" If so, why? Did you notice yourself often introducing attributes others couldn't see or often being the first not to see something?
