Leadership Development and Listening Game: Count To
Players form a circle and count aloud one at a time from one to ten. Anyone can say "one", anyone else can say "two", etc. The only rules are:
- No person can say two consecutive numbers;
- The group cannot use any sort of planned system;
- When two or more people speak at once, the count goes back to one.
Duration: 5-15 minutes.
Supplies: None.
Variations:
- Count to 20;
- Count from A to Z;
- Count with eyes closed.
Use this Technique:
- When people are arguing;
- To engage people;
- When people are talking over each other;
- To create synergy;
- Before visioning;
- At the end of a meeting.
Side Coaching
Breathe. Listen. If you hear two or more people start to say a number, say "one." If 15 players are counting to 10, what does this mean? Some people will have to not say a number.
Discussion
Why were we able to get there? Did anyone not say a number? If this exercise is at the end of a section or workshop, skip the processing so the group can end on a big cheer.
